In 1987 Elliot Smith and Co. and Mathers merged, combining more than two centuries of practice. Since then we’ve flourished and grown into one of the biggest law firms in Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, but we’ve never lost sight of our roots – family run local practices founded on quality, highly reliable legal services with a very personal touch.

In 2007, our practice incorporated, and became Elliot Mather LLP, a limited liability partnership registered in England and Wales under registration number OC321320.

We offer excellent legal services to individuals and business clients locally, regionally and nationally. Our reputation is based on a long and accomplished history and the ability to deliver every time. Now we base our approach on a set of characteristics that we know are important to our clients, and these characteristics define our work: clear, affordable, tailored, personal and impeccable.

Our quality of work means we are approved by both the Legal Services Commission and the Law Society, and enjoy membership of various other legal service specific bodies, such as the Family Panel, the Criminal Litigation Panel and the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

History

Elliot Mather was formed in 1987 by the merger of two long established regional practices. Elliot Smith & Co. of Mansfield goes all the way back to 1875 and Mathers of Chesterfield set up in 1905. Phillip Bertram Mather’s grand son, Bertie Mather, is a partner in the current firm, so the firm has remained a family interest.

It’s also true to say that our present day approach is founded on our historic experience. In over 200 years of collective practice we’ve developed an understanding of what clients want. Of course we’ve tailored our approach to today’s modern context, but the cornerstones of our service remain the same: clear, affordable, tailored, personal and impeccable legal service and advice.
