Bertie Mather (70), consultant with the Chesterfield criminal department has so far raised over £3,000 for worthwhile causes by putting himself through his paces (and pain) by taking part in the infamous Coast to Coast walk. Starting at St Bees, Cumbria, Bertie has already completed much of this epic walk over the course of about 200 miles. Bertie is completing the walk in two sessions and the first part of this popular Wainwright's Walk has already seen Bertie traverse the Lake District National Park and onwards to Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria. The second leg of his walk will see him brushing the northern section of the Yorkshire Dales National Park towards Richmond and then on to the North Yorkshire Moors. Bertie's voyage will conclude with him arriving at Robin Hood's on the East Coast (between Whitby and Scarborough) a few days later.
Bertie is doing all this in aid of charities close to his heart. These are The Bluebell Childrens Charity which supports the care of terminally ill children, the Prostate Cancer Charity and the Ashgate Hospice. So far, he has raised over £3,000 and aims to increase this total when he recommences his walk on 11th September (having turned 71 just the day before!)
If you would like to sponsor Bertie, a special bank account has been set up for contributions. The details are: B.J.M. Mather Coast to Coast Charity Walk, The Royal Bank of Scotland Chesterfield, Sort Code: 16-16-18, Account No.: 10986011
