Prison Law

For individuals serving prison sentences it can be very easy to feel that because you are incarcerated as punishment, you are not entitled to any assistance or advice.

Whether you are a long term prisoner with an upcoming parole hearing or re-categorisation review, a recall prisoner who has a further application for release or an internal hearing in front of a Governor or District Judge, we can help.

We are one of a small number of firms who, following the Legal Services Commission changes in July 2010, obtained a Prison Law contract to enable us to assist in all areas of Prison Law.

The Prison Law department is supervised by Bertie Mather who is assisted by Kelly Briggs. Both Bertie and Kelly will endeavour to provide as much assistance as possible regarding prison law matters and we list just some of the most common queries below:

  • Parole applications
  • Re-categorisation reviews
  • Recall reviews
  • Adjudication hearings in front of a Governor or District Judge
  • Transfer queries
  • Application for Home Detention Curfew (HDC)
  • Queries regarding treatment

Kelly Briggs is a Member of the Institute of Prison Lawyers and is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Bertie Mather is a duty accredited solicitor with many years experience dealing with a variety of different cases from the Police Station to the Crown Court.

In most cases, Legal Aid is available for prisoners depending on your personal circumstances. We will be able to advise you when we have assessed your individual situation.
