Alison has been working at Elliot Mather LLP in the child care department since 2015.
Alison works throughout Nottinghamshire and regularly attends court in both Mansfield and Nottingham. She has also represented clients in Chesterfield, Derby, Loughborough and Leicester.
Alison qualified as a solicitor over 18 years ago. Prior to this she worked for the civil service and for an insurance company before giving it all up to become a student again.
Alison undertook work in the general area of family and matrimonial law initially. Alison now specialises in cases where the local authority applies to court for an order seeking the separation of children from their birth family – Care Proceedings.
Within this area of law Alison represents parents and children and in 2005 became a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel, which is a specialist accreditation scheme. Alison represents children in Care proceedings either directly where they are of sufficient understanding, or through their Children’s Guardian.
In some cases Alison has been instructed directly by foster carers or extended family members who are seeking Special Guardianship orders or to adopt children in their care or from within their family.
Some of the cases dealt with have been extremely complex due to the issues involved and the type of harm alleged. Alison is able to assimilate large amounts of information and understand the issues raised very quickly and can then explain the issues to her clients in an easy to understand way so as to enable them to play a full part in the proceedings. Alison works in a non-judgmental way and tries to achieve the best possible outcome in every case.
