Nicola has over 20 years’ experience of working within family law covering a wide range of areas. She has experience in assisting clients in navigating their way through the divorce / dissolution of civil partnership process and dealing with the financial aspects.

She has represented parents and family members in cases regarding child arrangements; to include such matters as applying for Prohibited Steps and Specific Issues Orders.

She also has experience in dealing with cohabitation disputes to include the drafting of cohabitation agreements.

Nicola has a breadth of knowledge and expertise in all areas of family law to include advising on and drafting Pre-Nuptial Agreements, Post Nuptial Agreements and Separation Agreements.

She regularly deals with domestic abuse cases to include applying for and representing clients in applications for Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders under the Family Law Act 1996. She has also represented clients in opposing / challenging orders.

Nicola started out her career in 2000 at a local firm as a paralegal, studying in the evenings/weekends whilst working full time and qualified as a solicitor in 2006. She spent 8 years at a South Yorkshire firm based at its Chesterfield office before joining the family team at Elliot Mather in April 2023. She has a pragmatic and sensitive approach to cases and tries to resolve matters in the least contentious way away from the court arena.

Nicola is a member of the Law Society’s Family Accreditation Scheme demonstrating that she has and will maintain a high level of knowledge, skills and experience in family law issues. She is also a member of the family lawyers’ organisation Resolution.

Nicola has been recommended in the Legal 500, the last being in 2023.

During her career Nicola represented a couple in a complex and high profile case which went before Sir James Munby in the Family Court where the father of a child had been left without legal parentage due to a legal blunder made by an IVF clinic. Legal parentage was secured.

Outside work Nicola enjoys spending time with her family and taking holidays to Italy.
