How Staff Have Responded to the Changes Brought On By COVID-19

We are currently in an unprecedented period in time. The Coronavirus outbreak has affected everyone on a global scale, permanently altering the way we live and work.

Many businesses around the world have been forced to remain away from their premises and test their remote working capability to its most extreme level. Consequently, this has encouraged many workers to embrace the notion of working from home and the technology that supports this process.

What changes have been made to the way we work at Elliot Mather?

Currently, our offices remain closed to the general public, meaning that our staff are working remotely. As a firm we remain fully operational, offering a wide range of legal services by means of telephone communication and video conferencing.

Our dedicated team have remained motivated during these trying times, in order to continue servicing a wide range of client circumstances to an impeccable standard.

The changes we have made do not detract from our core values as a firm as we continue to provide quality, highly reliable legal advice with a very personal touch.

How has our team responded to the changes?

During these uncertain times, many people around the world have had to accept the many changes that have been made to their working lives. With many people working remotely who have never had to do so in the past, this can bring some challenges and frustrations that have never been experienced before. However, the changes may also spark some positives and alter the way some individuals think about their lives.

At Elliot Mather we cannot thank our committed team enough for how they have responded to the changes that have been made, during what is an unfamiliar period in time. As a firm we remain fully operational, and it is because of the dedicated staff that we are able to continue as such.

How do our team feel about the changes?

It is understandable that everyone feels differently about the Coronavirus pandemic and the affect it has had on our working lives. After asking staff members to reflect on how they feel about the changes that have been made to the way they work, both negative and positive feelings were made apparent.

For many, the initial change of our working process was a shock, as it was unfamiliar and strange. People get used to a certain way of living and it is expected that when things change, we feel an initial sense of shock and maybe a lack of control. However, over the past few weeks, feelings towards the changes in our working have been positive. People have become acclimatised to this new way of working and have appreciated some positive outcomes of this.

What are the positive things people have noticed about the changes?

One thing that has become apparent at Elliot Mather are the lengths that staff will go to in order to support each other. Individuals in different departments ensure that everyone has everything they need and offer help where required. This kind of support has also become noticeable nationwide, and it is important that we continue to be united during this trying time.

There are other positive aspects that have become clear on a more personal and individual level. Many staff members spend a lot of time and money commuting to work. Working from home means that many individuals have saved money in regards to this, and have noticed a decrease in their stress levels.

Although we are in a time that has had a huge impact on our lives, many people have begun to appreciate things that they may have taken for granted in the past. With schools being closed and many parents working from home, families have been able to spend more time together, thus bringing them closer and developing new interests as a family.

How do we stay motivated?

Continuously being inside is guaranteed to affect how we feel. The ‘groundhog day’ effect is difficult for many of us to comprehend, and this can affect how motivated we feel. We have become accustomed to being sociable and being in contact with others. Having this taken away is bound to leave us feeling frustrated. However, it is important to think of creative ways to stay motivated and keep your endorphin levels up.

At Elliot Mather, our committed team have remained motivated throughout the entirety of the COVID-19 outbreak, which must have been difficult to do on some occasions. Each of our team have different ways in which they stay motivated and it has been interesting to hear about them all.

Some of the staff have focused on their exercise regimes, completing yoga and HIIT sessions before they start their day. Others have been spending the time they would normally be commuting going for a walk with their dogs, getting some fresh air to feel ready for the day.

Many of us have developed new hobbies that challenge us and keep us busy when we aren’t working, such as; painting, jigsaw puzzles, knitting and gardening. It has been refreshing to hear about the creative ways that the team at Elliot Mather are staying motivated during this time, and how this has made them feel.

What can we predict for the future?

The Coronavirus pandemic will surely change the way we live and work on a permanent basis. At this moment in time, no-one knows what the future will bring for this country, and for the world as a whole. It is because of this that we must remain united in offering support to others whilst staying alert.

At Elliot Mather, the COVID-19 crisis has forced us to adapt our working, allowing us to service client needs remotely. In the future we can predict a more common theme of legal support being offered by means of video conferencing, alongside face-to-face meetings (in line with the Government’s social distancing policy). Consequently, our team will be able to offer our quality legal services, covering a wider geographical range.
